Letters: SBC name-change questions

The Baptist Courier

The article in the Sept. 29 Courier (“S.C. pastor to serve on task force to study possible SBC name change”) is very interesting on both sides of the issue.

Southern Baptist Convention president Bryant Wright states that he wants to consider four questions. I would like for him to answer two questions for all Southern Baptists:

First, when you (or anyone you know) have been witnessing to anyone in the world, have they stated that the name of the denomination kept them from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior? In all my years as a Southern Baptist, this has never come up.

Second, how many times does the Lord have to say no for you to listen? The article states that he has said no eight times already.

I will pray that the task force seeks only the Lord’s answers.
