I don’t think the suggested name change for the Southern Baptist Convention has to do with political correctness. In fairness, the name “Southern” no longer really reflects who we are. That being said, I think we will lose more than we will gain by changing the name of the SBC. Southern Baptists have a long and well-established identity. Some of that identity is negative, but much of it is positive, and changing our name won’t change the unwise actions in our past. Furthermore, a name change will be very expensive. Since our funds are already tight, I don’t believe that’s good stewardship of the Lord’s money.
