Concerning the name change for Southern Baptists, all the obvious ones are already taken – Independent, American, etc. In the interest of enticing new members, we could combine Fundamental and Baptist, and change the name to Fun Baptists! Well, maybe not.
Attempts at humor aside, and in the interest of worldwide inclusion, why not merely shorten our name to “Baptists”? Jesus and the apostles and the early church were baptists by definition. Let’s go back to basics and show the global community that we are a global institution, welcoming all peoples into our congregations.
