A total of 131 Anderson University students received diplomas during winter commencement exercises Dec. 9. The evening ceremony marked the largest number of students ever to graduate from Anderson during winter commencement.
Faculty chair Jackie Walker, assistant professor of kinesiology, delivered the commencement address, “Google or God?” Walker encouraged graduates whose generation is fully immersed in technology to use it to the fullest extent in their professions but also to remember to disconnect to reflect and tend to the more important relationships in life, such as those with family and with God. She also extolled the virtues of hard work as the primary road to success, but reminded students to place equal emphasis on their faith.
The ceremony honored the first graduating class of AU’s master of ministry program of the David T. Clamp Graduate School of Christian Ministry. Anderson University received the largest gift in school history in the spring of 2009 from the estate of David T. Clamp. Clamp’s wife, Jane Ferguson Clamp, traveled from Virginia to take part in winter commencement to recognize the six graduates of the master of ministry program.
Linda M. Morris, a 1967 graduate of Anderson, received the Alumni Achievement Award. Morris is the president and CEO of Ronald McDonald House Charities in Atlanta.
Robert S. Kolb, who earned his bachelor’s degree at AU in 2009 and his MBA in 2011, received the ACCEL Alumni Achievement Award. Kolb is executive vice president of The Radiology Group in Atlanta. – AU
