Reedy Fork Baptist Church, Greenville

Reedy Fork Baptist Church, Greenville, which for a short time claimed R.G. Lee as pastor, will celebrate its 140th anniversary on May 20.

The event will feature a 10:30 a.m. service followed by dinner on the grounds and gospel music. Robert Whaley, formerly pastor of Northgate Baptist Church in Greenville for three decades, has been pastor at Reedy Fork for nearly two years.

Lee served Reedy Fork during 1911 and while there preached the sermon for which he became famous, “Pay Day Some Day.” R.C. Eustace had the longest tenure as pastor, 22 years.

Special events on May 16 include a cemetery dedication, a visit to the creek site of the original baptismal pool, and a brush arbor singing. Worship services began in 1868 in a brush arbor built on the spot where the church now stands.
