I have been following the news about the Catholic church lawsuit [challenging the contraceptive mandate of] “Obamacare.” I believe this is not an issue about contraception or women’s rights, nor is it just a Catholic issue. It is an attack on the religious freedom of all Christians, and I do not understand why the other Christian denominations, and particularly the Baptists, are not stepping forward and joining the Catholic church in this fight.
Jesus said to render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s. From early childhood, I was taught that this means we should obey the laws of the country in so far as they did not conflict with the law of God. Attacking our faith beliefs – whether they be Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran, etc. – should be of concern to every Christian. It is time we stopped sitting on the sidelines and letting these kinds of things determine who we are. It’s no wonder the media is hiding this controversy.
