S.C. ministry assistants group elects new officers

Ministry assistants from all areas of the state gathered May 17-19 at Seneca Baptist Church for training, worship, inspiration, business and fellowship.

“Spread the Fragrance” was the theme for the 27th meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Ministry Assistants Association.

Kathy Hall of Kershaw Baptist Association, will serve as president of the South Carolina Baptist Ministry Assistants Association for the next two years.

Kathy Hall, ministry assistant/treasurer of Kershaw Baptist Association, was elected 2012-2014 SCBMAA president, succeeding Brenda Barnes of Beaverdam Association.

Other officers elected included Blanche Riley, Blaney Baptist Church, Elgin, secretary-treasurer; Rebecca Elvington, Pee Dee Association, historian; Lisa Jenkins, Utica Baptist Church, Seneca, area representative; Mary Mullis, Sweetwater Baptist Church, North Augusta, area representative; and Patricia Terry, Allendale-Hampton Association, area representative.

Training sessions were led by Becky Kirby, a women’s retreat leader; Sandra Sartor, a LifeWay ministry assistants specialist and instructor; Dianne Cockrell, South Carolina Baptist Convention team assistant; and Robert Grant, SCBC director of church retirement, insurance and administration office.

Recognized at the Friday night banquet were four past presidents: Frances Miller, Joyce Sudduth, Delores Stansell and Lynn Burdette.

The meeting’s printed program included a memorial to Aretta Pennington, Ridge Association administrative assistant, who died Jan. 20, 2012.

Camden First Baptist Church will host the next SCBMAA meeting, May 15-17, 2014.
