On Nov. 9, Friendship Baptist Church, Gray Court, honored the local EMS, law enforcement and fire departments. The evening event, at which more than 100 public servants and church members were present, included a meal and a magic show by Christian magician Steve Holt. Deacon chairman Ralph Bobo presented a monetary gift to chief James Godwin of Youngs Community Fire Department in recognition of their service to the community.

Friendship Baptist Church, Gray Court, held Trunk and Treat for the fifth year. About 20 cars were decorated by church members for the event, which also included games provided by the youth of the church and a petting zoo. More than 200 people attended.

Irene Towe retired Nov. 6 after serving for 31 years as treasurer of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Westminster. Pastor Steve Roberts presented a plaque of recognition on behalf of the church.

First Baptist Church, Leesville, held a Celebration Sunday Nov. 6 as a culmination of the 40 Days of Purpose Campaign. Members and participants enjoyed a catered lunch after the morning worship services. Those who had worked during the campaign were recognized. Robert Williamson Jr., pastor of First Baptist, led the congregation in this endeavor to change peoples’ lives.

Sam Cranston was baptized Nov. 6 at Bethel Boat Landing in Lancaster by Bill Poore, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Lancaster. Cranston, an outdoorsman, requested baptism in the river where he had once saved an Hispanic man from drowning. For the next two months, Cranston will be living in Rocky Mount, N.C., where he will be Santa Claus at a mall. While in Rocky Mount, he plans to attend First Baptist Church.
