CSU Football Drops Season Opener to Lindenwood 20-17

SAINT CHARLES— Charleston Southern was unable to battle back against Lindenwood in the 20-17 defeat in Thursday’s season opener at Hunter Stadium. The Bucs dropped their third consecutive game against the Lions.

Lek Powell threw an 85-yard pick-six with 13 seconds remaining in the second half, which scored the game’s first touchdown. Charleston Southern pulled within three with 2:03 remaining in the fourth quarter but were unable to regain possession.

Powell completed 18 of his 32 passes for 208 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also rushed for 32 yards on nine carries. Graduate running back Dwayne Wright rushed for 58 yards on 11 carries which led the team. K.D. Dorsey led the receiving room with 46 yards on three receptions. Mekhi Campfield had five receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown.

The Bucs (0-1, 0-1) will play next at Georgia Southern on September 5 at 7 p.m.
