College Football: NGU Rallies from 21 Down to Remain Unbeaten

PEMBROKE—The Trailblazers denied Josh Ehrlic’s two-point pass with 34 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter to seal a 42-41 win over UNC Pembroke Saturday afternoon.

North Greenville went down 21-0 early in the second quarter but scored three consecutive touchdowns to tie the game at halftime. Quarterback Kam Montgomery completed just 10 of his 26 pass attempts but threw for 259 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed for 116 yards and two more scores. Montgomery leads the Trailblazers with 374 rushing yards and eight touchdowns this season.

Sam Washam caught three passes for 100 yards and two touchdowns, including a 75-yard score in the third. Senior defensive back Jeremiah Lomax notched his second interception of the season.

North Greenville (5-0, 2-0) will host to Chowan on Saturday for a noon kickoff.

Emory & Henry 23, Anderson 20

ANDERSON—The Trojans allowed a 23-yard touchdown pass with 1:12 remaining in the fourth quarter to seal their fate on Saturday at Melvin & Dollie Younts Stadium. Wilson Edwards completed 15 of 29 pass attempts for two touchdowns and two picks, his first multi-interception game this year.

Leading rusher Darren Lloyd averaged just 2.9 yards per carry over his 15 attempts. Zay Williams caught seven passes for 114 yards and a score. He leads the receiving room by a wide margin in all major categories.

After having its school-record win streak snapped on Saturday, Anderson (4-2, 3-1) will host Emory & Henry on Saturday.

Gardner-Webb 12, Charleston Southern 10

CHARLESTON—Bucs quarterback Lek Powell was taken down in the end zone for what proved to be the game-winning safety with just under six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter on Saturday at Buccaneer Field.

Powell completed just 9 of 17 passes for 38 yards and was sacked five times.

Running backs Hakeen Watters and Dwayne Wright combined for 179 rushing yards over 27 carries. The Bucs have now lost five consecutive games to the Runnin’ Bulldogs. Charleston Southern (2-3, 0-2) will host the No. 12 team in the FCS, South Carolina State, on Saturday.
