
Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Hampton, founded in 1869, unveiled a state historical marker during its homecoming celebration Nov. 6. State Representative Bill Bowers spoke during the unveiling ceremonies, and John Muller of Calvary Baptist Church, Leesville, was guest speaker for the anniversary. Roland Dry Sr. and his wife Carol were recognized in October by the members of Inspiration Baptist Church, Rock Hill, with a Pastor Appreciation Day. The Drys were presented a gift check, as well as many cards and other gifts. Inspiration is nearly six years old and currently has about 276 members and a new $1 million facility.

The youth of Northside Memorial Baptist Church, Sumter, prepared 114 shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse. The church collected a total of 181 shoeboxes this December.

Doris Jones Hogan, center, of Pacolet Mills Baptist Church, was recently presented a 30-year perfect attendance pin. Pat Tate, Sunday school director, and pastor Norman Band made the presentation.

Locust Hill Baptist Church, Travelers Rest, recently held “Sunday Night at the Hampton,” an evening of praise and worship in the parking lot of the Hampton Inn in Travelers Rest, and an “old-fashioned” southern barbecue to feed the evacuees of hurricanes Katrina and Wilma who are staying at the hotel. Along with these emphases, they have helped the Jeff and Jennifer Smoaks family, students at New Orleans Baptist Seminary, and have raised more than $10,000 for evacuees.
