At the midpoint of the fiscal year, contributions through the Cooperative Program continue to run ahead of budgeted goals for the South Carolina Baptist Convention, although giving slowed in June.

Through the first six months of 2012, CP giving was 1.02 percent above budgeted needs and 1.34 percent below contributions received during the same period in 2011, according to information released by Pam Carroll, the SCBC’s chief financial officer.

Giving slowed in June; through May, receipts were running 3.14 percent above budgeted needs.

Through June 29, SCBC churches had forwarded $14,394,790 toward a $28.5 million state CP budget. (For a detailed giving report from the churches, visit www.scbaptist.org/givingreports.)

“We are grateful for the continued faithfulness of South Carolina Baptists related to their sacrificial giving,” said Jim Austin, SCBC executive director-treasurer.

Austin pointed to the convention’s SummerSalt youth camps as “one of the many ministries supported through Cooperative Program giving” and said the camps are experiencing record attendance and “possibly historic numbers of decisions for Christ.”

Nationally, CP contributions to Southern Baptist national and international missions and ministries are 4.27 percent above the year-to-date budgeted goal and are .32 percent above contributions received during the same time frame last year.
