October is Parson’s Pantry month for the Gaffney-based ministry, and so its director, Ron Jackson, is taking a hike – a long one.
Jackson has announced that he will walk more than 100 miles – from Gaffney to Hartwell, Ga., to “raise funds to help the Lord’s servants who are facing financial problems.”
He will begin his trek at 8 a.m. on Oct. 1, departing from Gaffney’s city hall. The goal of the walk is to raise $25,000 to help needy pastors, widows of pastors, and married ministerial students.
A day of prayer for Parson’s Pantry is set for Oct. 7. The month-long observance, which coincides with nationally observed Pastor Appreciation Month, will conclude with a celebration at Providence Baptist Church in Gaffney on Oct. 25 beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Parson’s Pantry, Inc., operates with a board of directors made up of 20 laymen and pastors. “The Lord has blessed the ministry with enough resources to help 386 needy families with more than $300,000,” said board chairman Jackson, a former pastor.
Jackson seeks pledges for his walk to support Parson’s Pantry. All gifts are tax deductible, he emphasized, adding, “One hundred percent of all donations will go to assist needy families.” Fellow Christians, churches and businesses willing to support the walk can send contributions to Parson’s Pantry at P.O. Box 777, Gaffney 29342.
