Steep Bottom Baptist Church, Estill, was represented by 15 youth and four adults at the Big Youth Thing at Carowinds on Aug. 2. Twelve people made decisions to rededicate their lives to Christ.

 

A group of GA and Acteen girls from Townville Baptist Church attended Camp La Vida in June. They were, from left, Abby Claflin, Rachel Martin, Cassidy Shedd, Emma Williams and Heather Nix.

 

Townville Baptist Church’s GAs and Acteens held a prayer tea for Muslims, hosted by Trudy Crittendon and their leaders, on May 30. The girls took off their shoes, covered their heads, and enjoyed a variety of foods that are often served for tea in a Muslim woman’s home. The tea ended with a prayer time for Muslim women around the world.

 

“Running Souls” started out as a small group but grew quickly to 60 people at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church, Greer. The group was designed for people of all ages and running experience who wanted to learn more about running, participate in Bible study and train together to run their first 5K together as a group. Recently, 42 members participated in the Run2Overcome in Greenville.

 

Bethlehem Baptist Church in Roebuck recently held Vacation Bible School based on the “Incrediworld Amazement Park” curriculum. The offering each night was sent to Samaritan’s Purse for their new ministry to wounded veterans, “Operation Heal Our Patriots.” Jim Oliver is pastor of Bethlehem Church.

 

Ronald “Dee” Vaughan, pastor of St. Andrews Baptist Church, Columbia, is writer of the September adult Sunday school lessons in LifeWay’s “Life Words” and “Life Lessons” quarterlies. The unit of lessons, “Following Jesus Means,” is a study of the Sermon on the Mount. s

 

Evergreen Baptist Church, Effingham, recently celebrated the launch of its G252 children’s ministry, using The Gospel Project curriculum, with a back-to-school bash. Quinn Hooks is pastor of Evergreen.

 

Tom Sees, pastor of Rising Son Community Church, Myrtle Beach, led seven churches on mission to Jamaica in July, marking his 26th and 27th trips to the region.

 

Friendship Baptist Church in Honea Path held Vacation Bible School Aug. 5-10 and had 113 in attendance on Thursday evening. Bill Ellison is supply pastor.

 

Christian recording artist Kristian Stanfill performed at Charleston Southern University on Aug. 19. The concert was part of Charleston Southern’s three-day college year kickoff called “Awakening.” The school welcomed 940 new students with worship and service opportunities for all students throughout the Aug. 18-20 weekend. Parents and students arrived to major campus renovations. In addition to recent dormitory upgrades, the campus boasts a new athletic center, and ongoing construction of the new Christian Leadership Building is under construction at the center of campus. s

 

In first photo above, 26 volunteers from six churches in the St. George area (including Memorial Baptist Church, Old St. George Baptist Church, Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Mt. Tabor Baptist Church, St. George United Methodist Church, Elko First Baptist Church, along with a church from Florida) returned home recently from a mission trip to Alaska, where they conducted a food-distribution ministry at the Salmon Frenzy on the beaches near Kenai. More than 16,000 hotdogs, waters, hot chocolates and lemonades were served to subsistence fishermen as the salmon were running up the rivers in the area. Thirty people prayed to receive Christ. Backyard Hope, in partnership with LifePoint Church, Dillon, sponsored its fourth annual “Back to School Bash” Aug. 4 at Dillon’s Wellness Center. Each student received a backpack filled with school supplies. The event was sponsored by churches, businesses and individuals. Free haircuts and healthcare screenings were offered. Also, pastors and counselors were on hand to share the gospel, and 78 people prayed to receive Christ. Over the past four years, Backyard Hope has ministered to more than 3,000 students and their families.

 

Caitlyn Ball, a member of Crescent Hill Baptist Church, Columbia, recently celebrated her ninth birthday – but instead of gifts, she requested that donations be made to her church’s food pantry, which received more than $400 in her honor. Caitlyn is pictured with bags of groceries to be given to needy families in her community.

 

First Baptist Church of North Myrtle Beach recently held an ocean baptism with 12 people being baptized by John Gambrell and Dwain Hayes.

 

Woman’s Missionary Union at Maple Baptist Church, Conway, recently began a new group focusing on sewing and quilting. Leading the Dorethea Long Sewing Ministry are Pam Clark and Betty Sue Parker. The group has set early November as a target to complete lap quilts and walker bags for residents of extended-care facilities.
