More than 200 awarded degrees at Charleston Southern graduation

More than 200 students received degrees during Charleston Southern University’s December graduation ceremony Dec. 17 in the Lightsey Chapel Auditorium.

Summerville business owner Mary Williams was the graduation speaker.

Williams, a member of the university’s board of visitors, owns Williams Tax and Accounting, LLC, which she started in 1971.

After attending CSU in the evening for 10 consecutive years, she graduated with honors from the university in 1981 with a bachelor of science degree in accounting. She received an honorary doctorate of humanities during the commencement. Williams is an active member of the Azalea Drive Church of Christ.

Jerry Williams, senior vice president of First Citizens Bank in Lancaster, received an honorary doctorate in business administration. Williams, also a member of the board of visitors, is a former member of the board of trustees. He established The Jerry Williams Family Endowed Scholarship and helped establish the First Citizens Endowed Scholarship.
