Gardner Charles Langdon Koch Jr., 86, of Rock Hill, a pastor more than 50 years, died Sept. 4, 2012, at his home.

Born in Baltimore, Md., Koch was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during World War II and was a graduate of the University of Virginia and New Orleans Seminary.

He was a minister for more than 50 years, pastoring churches in Alabama, Maryland and South Carolina. He was the first full-time pastor at Lakewood Baptist Church in Rock Hill and was the chaplain at Piedmont Medical Center for 12 years. He loved writing Bible lessons and doing biblical drama.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Betty Jean Threatt Koch, four children, nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
