Two Upstate pastors – Ralph Carter and Ty Childers – will be nominated for president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention when messengers gather for this year’s annual meeting at the TD Convention Center in Greenville Nov. 13-14.

Carter, pastor of Brushy Creek Baptist Church in Taylors, who served in 2011 as chairman of the SCBC’s Great Commission Task Force, will be nominated by former state convention president Fred Stone, pastor of Pickens First Baptist Church.
“I believe that Ralph Carter is a wise servant-leader who can, by God’s grace, lead South Carolina Baptists to become more united in our common purpose of reaching the lost of our state and the world with the gospel,” Stone told the Courier.
Childers, pastor of Fairview Baptist Church in Spartanburg and 2011 president of the South Carolina Baptist Pastors Conference, will likewise be nominated by a former state convention president: David Gallamore, pastor of Rock Springs Baptist Church in Easley.
Gallamore described Childers as a “proven leader” who will be “good for our state convention.” The Easley pastor also praised Childers for the “good rapport” he has with South Carolina Baptist pastors.
In addition to the nominations for president, the Courier has also learned of the following likely nominees for SCBC offices:
? Keith Shorter, pastor of Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Easley, will be nominated for first vice president by Broadus Moody, retired director of missions for Piedmont Baptist Association.
? Jeff Whaley, pastor of Secona Baptist Church, Pickens, will be nominated for first vice president by Jerry White, pastor of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Easley, and former SCBC president.
? Micah Lane, pastor of Socastee Baptist Church in Myrtle Beach, will be nominated for second vice president by Randall Jones, retired pastor of Langston Baptist Church, Conway, and former SCBC president.
Also, Tom Tucker, pastor of Sisk Memorial Baptist Church, Rock Hill, told the Courier he will nominate Dwight Easler, pastor of Corinth Baptist Church, Gaffney, for president of the South Carolina Baptist Pastors Conference. Easler currently serves as vice president of the Pastors Conference.
The Pastors Conference will meet Nov. 12 at Brushy Creek Baptist Church, Taylors, in advance of the SCBC annual meeting.
The Courier will publish profiles of the SCBC presidential nominees in its Nov. 8 issue.
