Letter: Articles were ‘blessings’

The Baptist Courier

Don Kirkland’s Commentary on “Enduring to the End” and Lee Clamp’s article on the contrast of a cruise ship to an aircraft carrier in the recent “Baptist Courier were blessings to me.

Prior to my 27-year ministry with South Carolina Baptists – at North Greenville University, in Greenwood, and in Charleston – I was a chaplain’s assistant aboard the USS Yorktown for more than three years in the Pacific during World War II.

Since the Yorktown arrived in Charleston in 1975, I have had a ministry as chaplain for the USS Yorktown Association. During the annual reunion of the association several weeks ago, I participated in six ceremonies. I am an aircraft carrier minister.

I recently celebrated my 89th birthday and lectured at The College of Charleston on World War II and the USS Yorktown.

I pray that the Lord will bless the Courier’s editor in his retirement as much as He has blessed me in mine.
