Salem Baptist Church, Bennettsville, celebrates 225th anniversary

Salem Baptist Church in Bennettsville will celebrate its 225th anniversary Sept. 30 at 10:30 a.m. The church began in 1793 when some of the members separated from the old Welsh Neck Church. The first meeting house was constructed in 1807. The church name was changed from “Three Creeks” to “Salem” in 1814.

Earle Street Baptist Church dedicates education/office building

Earle Street Baptist Church in Greenville dedicated a three-story education and office wing July 22. The 14,000-square-foot building offers additional classrooms, conference rooms and office space. A highlight of the new space includes a hallway leading to the worship center that displays, through a timeline of photos and documents, the history of the 96-year-old congregation.

Broad River, Blacksburg, celebrates centennial Sept. 9

Broad River Baptist Church in Blacksburg will celebrate its 100th anniversary Sept. 9. The church grew out of impromptu outdoor prayer meetings under a large oak tree in the mill village in the early 1900s. Former pastor Howard Allen will speak at a 10:30 a.m. special service.

Sandy Run senior adults present gift to Connie Maxwell

The Sandy Run Baptist Church, Hampton, senior adult group recently visited the Brookland campus of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in Orangeburg and presented the ministry a gift of $1,300 from the congregations of Sandy Run Church and Robertville Baptist Church in Pineland.
