Judith “Judy” Cherry Smith, 59, wife of Lander University Baptist collegiate minister Scott Smith, died Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Self Regional Medical Center in Greenwood.

She was a graduate of Campbell University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Surviving family in addition to her husband include her daughter, Cherry Lynne Smith; son, Charles Thomas Smith, and his wife, Monica Christine Smith, all of Greenwood; sister, Jenny May, and her husband, Trip, of Winston Salem, N.C.; and brother, Russell Thomas Cherry III, and his wife, Betsy, of Louisville, Ky.

A celebration service will be held Tuesday, June 24, at 3 p.m. at South Main Street Baptist Church, Greenwood, with Doug Kaufmann and Andy Roberson officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday in the Connecting Place of the church.

Memorials may be made to the Judy Smith Fund (Baptist Foundation, 190 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia, S.C. 29210). All donations in her memory will support Baptist Collegiate Ministry at Lander University.
