Eldon Leroy Hayes, 93, of Anderson, died Feb. 6, 2014.

Born in Pickens, he earned a master of religious education degree from Southwestern Seminary. He retired from Union Baptist Church in Iva after serving 33 years as pastor and held the title of pastor emeritus. He served in numerous ministries at other churches and at the state and local levels of the South Carolina Baptist Convention. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Anderson.

Hayes served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in Italy and Africa.

Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Florene Anthony Hayes, three children, 11 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
