Courier moving to new page size in January 2016

In an effort to improve quality while maximizing its financial resources, The Courier will move to a glossy format for its printed edition beginning in January 2016.

The new publication will be approximately 8½ by 11 inches, down from the current page size of 9½ by 12 inches.

Courier editor Rudy Gray said the smaller page size will not mean a reduction in content. “We’ll be adding pages and adjusting our design in order to continue offering a full complement of timely stories, columns and features,” said Gray.

By moving to a standard publication size, The Courier will save money on production even as it is printed on a higher-quality glossy paper, said Gray. “Our readers should see an immediate improvement in the quality of photographs and easier-to-read text.”

Throughout its 146-year history, The Courier has been published in a variety of sizes including newspaper broadsheet, tabloid and various magazine formats (including 8½ by 11 inches from 1961-2002).

“Our readers who were born before the early 1990s may remember The Courier as an 8½-by-11-inch magazine,” said Gray. “We look forward to returning to that familiar and convenient size.”
