Runion is second announced nominee for SCBC president-elect

Mike Runion, pastor of City View First Baptist Church in Greenville, will be nominated for president-elect of the South Carolina Baptist Convention at the denomination’s annual meeting Nov. 12-13 at Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in North Charleston.

Tom Tucker, pastor of Sisk Memorial Baptist Church in Fort Mill and a former state convention president, will nominate Runion, who currently serves as SCBC first vice president.

“If elected, I will serve Christ through serving the churches of the South Carolina Baptist Convention and their incredible pastors,” said Runion. “Together, I believe we make a difference in the work of the kingdom. It would be my joy to lead our convention deeper into Christ’s vision to ‘seek and to save that which was lost’ and … in fulfilling the Great Commission in the context of the Great Commandment.”

Runion, a former president of the South Carolina Baptist Pastors Conference, holds a D.Min. and an M.Div. from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served at City View since 2007, where the congregation has experienced revitalization and has planted a Hispanic ministry.

Runion and his wife, Gail, have three children and 14 grandchildren.

Josh Powell, pastor of Lake Murray Baptist Church in Lexington, will also be nominated for president-elect. Josh McClendon, pastor of Philippi Baptist Church in Johnston, will nominate Powell.

SCBC officers are normally voted on during the Wednesday morning session of the convention.
